MATT LEE TO PLAY ‘BERT’ IN UK AND IRELAND TOUR OF MARY POPPINS!

Morrissey Management’s Matt Lee has been cast as ‘Bert’ in Disney and Cameron Mackintosh’s Mary Poppins the musical UK and Ireland Tour, it has been announced. Lee will appear alongside Zizi Strallen (Rock of Ages, Dirty Dancing, Cinderella), who has been cast as ‘Mary Poppins’.

Matt Lee previously played the role of ‘Bert’ in the Australian tour of Mary Poppins the musical, for which he won the prestigious 2011 Helpmann Award for Best Actor in a Musical. His other theatre credits in Australia include Miss Saigon, The Witches of Eastwick, Rent, Grease and The Boy from Oz. Matt was also a permanent member of the judging panel for So You Think You Can Dance Australia for Network Ten, which earned him a 2009 Logie Nomination for Most Popular New Talent.

Matt Lee said “It is such an honour to be chosen by Cameron for the UK/Ireland tour out of all the actors who have played ‘Bert’ around the world - I’m stoked. I’ve always wanted to perform in the UK and to be able to do so in this role, in this show, is pure magic."

Cameron Mackintosh said Matt Lee is "one of the most brilliant ‘Berts’ we have been fortunate to find worldwide. I know Zizi and Matt will be practically perfect in every way and a show-stopping tour de force."

Opening at Leicester Curve on 12 October 2015, the Mary Poppins UK and Ireland tour will run until 29 October 2016.
